Veteran's Memorial Garden

About nine years ago I would look out of my office window to see this area of weeds between the Sanctuary and the education building.  I spoke to my board and asked them if we could build a garden honoring our war veterans.  They agreed with enthusiasm.  The rest is history...we spent a few months digging up the area, placed flowers, trees, and then the center piece which is the cross.  There is a plaque at the base of the cross which says, "In Honor of our Veterans."  The first brass plaque placed on the Veteran's wall was Bill's.  I have never forgotten him, Kathy, or our dear Beverly.  I still remember the last time we spoke, it was the week of graduation.  John Williamson, Bill, and me shared our appreciation for the friendship and Bill spoke of his love for Beverly.  It was a touching moment since you can imagine, high school age guys seldom have what is considered tender moments.  Bill never made us feel like we were beneath him, in fact he was always there to help us in times when we were struggling as underclassmen.
Hope this helps, if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.

Look around -

These are the people that you love;

The ones you have shared

Joy and splendor with -

The ones you have shared

Pain and tragedy with -

Together - smile at the past

Shed a tear for a separation soon to come,

Shed a tear for the days gone by.

Then reach for the stars -

You'll touch them someday.

But no matter how many stars

Your future may bring,

Always look back and remember;

Those were the people you loved.
